What we collect, and what never leaves your phone

Last updated 30 August 2026

SightMetric analyses your shooting position using your iPhone's camera and microphone. Almost all of that happens on the device and stays there. This page says exactly which parts do not.

Camera and microphone: processed on device, never uploaded

The camera is used to track your body position, your hand, and the pistol. Frames are analysed in memory on your iPhone using Apple's Vision framework and are then discarded. No video or still image is recorded, stored, or transmitted anywhere.

The microphone is used for one purpose: detecting the sharp transient of the trigger release, so each shot can be timed. Audio is analysed as it arrives and discarded. No audio is recorded, stored, or transmitted.

Nothing in the app uploads media. This is a property of how it is built, not a policy we could quietly change without shipping a new version.

What is stored on your phone

Sessions are written to a local database on the device as they happen, with no network involved. This is deliberate: training at a match with no signal has to work exactly as well as training at home. What is stored is numbers:

  • Per shot — hold stability, break disturbance and its direction, follow-through, cant, elbow angle, head tilt, trigger isolation, a stability score, and a sampled path of muzzle movement in millimetres
  • Per session — discipline, start and end time, device model, app version, camera frame rate
  • Your profile — display name, handedness, measured muzzle height, arm reach, and your saved zero

What is backed up, and when

If you create an account, completed sessions are backed up to our database (hosted by Supabase) after the series ends. Never during. The backup contains the same numbers listed above and nothing else.

You can use the app without an account. Sessions recorded while signed out stay on your phone and are never transmitted.

Account information

Sign in with Apple
We receive an account identifier, and an email address if you choose to share it. If you use Apple's private relay address, that is all we ever see.
Email sign-in
We store your email address and an authentication token. Passwords are handled by Supabase Auth and are never visible to us.
Waitlist
If you gave us an email address on this website, it is used to send a TestFlight invitation and for nothing else.

Who can see your data

Every row in our database is protected by row-level security policies that restrict it to the account that created it. We have verified this with an automated test suite that confirms one account cannot read, modify, or attach data to another's.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. There is no analytics SDK, no advertising identifier, and no third-party tracking in the app.

Deleting your data

Deleting the app removes everything stored on your phone. To delete an account and everything backed up with it, email support@sightmetric.app from the address on the account. Deletion is permanent and covers every session and shot record, not just the login.

Children

SightMetric is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Junior shooters under 13 should use a parent's or coach's account.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app's release notes.
